Covid-19 has been spreading around the world since its outbreak in Wuhan, China in December 2019. Viruses constantly change through mutation, and new variants of a virus are expected to occur. Multiple variants of the virus that causes COVID-19 have been documented in the United States and globally during this pandemic. Some variations allow the virus to spread more easily or make it resistant to treatments or vaccines. This virus is an intractable global health challenge resulting in an aberrant rate of morbidity and mortality worldwide. There is an urgent need for rapid and accurate detection method, as well as vaccine and drug design for targeted and effective COVID-19 treatment!

What are “Aptamers”?

Aptamers are RNA or DNA oligonucleotides (or peptides) that, through their 3-dimensional structures, bind to specific target molecules with high affinity and specificity.

Some of aptamers have shown the inhibitory effects on coronavirus that could be applied as therapeutics.
