SPECIMEN IDENTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Patient full name
  • Medical Record number
  • Date and time of collection
  • Collector name
  • Specimen type

KEY HANDLING RULES BY TUBE

  • Clot 30 min before centrifugation
  • Centrifuge 1300×g / 10 min
  • Separate serum within 2 hours
  • Store 2–8°C up to 48hr; freeze at -20°C if >24hr
  • Ship frozen on dry ice

  • 9:1 blood-to-anticoagulant ratio, fill to mark
  • Gentle 3–6 inversions, no shaking
  • Centrifuge 3200 RPM (1500×g) / 10 min
  • Double centrifuge for platelet-poor plasma
  • Freeze immediately at ≤-20°C
  • No frost-free freezers
  • Ship frozen on dry ice

  • Centrifuge within 7 hours
  • Store 2–8°C up to 24hr or freeze at -20°C
  • Avoid severely hemolyzed specimens

  • Patient must avoid arm/hand exercise before collection
  • Centrifuge 1300×g / 10 min within 15 min of collection
  • Freeze at -20°C if not tested within 24hr
  • Ship on dry ice; thaw only once

  • Gentle inversions after collection
  • Refrigerate 2–8°C until shipped
  • Ship with ice packs; must arrive within 48hr

REJECTION CRITERIA

  • Clotted specimens
  • Wrong anticoagulant tube
  • Under/overfilled tube
  • Grossly hemolyzed, lipemic, or icteric
  • Mislabeled or unlabeled

SHIPPING

  • Frozen specimens: crush-resistant container, dry ice, next-day delivery including Saturday
  • Whole blood: ice packs, 2–8°C, next-day delivery
  • LDH, ALT, Amylase: ambient temperature (20–25°C)
